Check out these 31 Blogtober post ideas to try this month!

Happy October and Happy first day of Blogtober! It is finally my favorite month of the entire year! It is time for pumpkins, cinnamon coffee, and autumn candles. Who am I kidding, I have been celebrating since the middle of August. But October is THE month. The month where I can wear everything Halloween and no one can say a single thing about it. What a time to be alive. But also, as soon as October is over, Winter celebrations start. I’m not mad about it, I do love Christmas decorations and holiday movies. But I need to soak up all the spookiness I can before October is over.

October doesn’t only mean Halloween fun. It also means blogging fun. I have been participating in Blogtober for 2 years now, once on this blog, and twice over on my book blog, Bookish Coffee Blog. After two years, I know how difficult it can be to come up with 31 topics to write about for one blog, let alone two. This is especially true if you have not been preparing for this for months in advance (trust me, people do this)! But do not fear! It is still possible to participate in Blogtober without the preparation. I have done it!

Last year, I decided in the middle of September that I wanted to participate in Blogtober on both blogs. I had already done it once, but I was in no way prepared for doing double the work. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision. I thought it would be a fun way to drive traffic to my new blog, this blog. Of course, during those two weeks, I did absolutely no preparation beyond some basic brainstorming. So, when October came around, I was writing two blog posts a day, for both of my blogs, with no idea what I was doing and a was working a full-time job at the same time. It was… not fun and super exhausting. After that, I didn’t post on either blog for about 9 months. I needed a rest period after all that blogging. All the traffic and hard work, gone.

This is not to say you can’t do it. As I said, I did it last year. It is to say that preparation is key, and even with it being the first day of October, you can still prepare. Have a day off? Spend some time planning, writing, and scheduling content ahead of time. Every step forward with preparation will save you a lot of headaches later on.

This year, I decided to start planning a lot sooner. I began planning content for each day in August and I started writing in September. While I am not 100% done (I’m not even 25% done), I am way more prepared than I was.

But in hopes of helping just a little, I am creating a list of 31 blogtober post ideas. You can steal as many as you like, or use these as a bouncing off point to more creative and exciting content.

What is Blogtober?

I guess first, I should talk about what Blogtober actually is. Blogtober is a month-long event in the blogosphere where content creators will create a post for each day in the month of October. It is usually full of fall and Halloween-themed content, but many bloggers also do non-seasonal content as well.

What participate in Blogtober?

I know, why would you ever want to put yourself through writing all these posts?

I was initially attracted to the idea because I heard of the traffic boost it can create. As a small creator, I will take any boost of serotonin I can find, and that is linked directly to the traffic on my websites. Nah, I’m just kidding, but I was excited by this prospect.

I also loved the idea of connecting with all the other bloggers participating in this challenge. It is tough to write and create and post this much content in one month, and bloggers are all bonded by this shared experience. So, I get excited every year to connect with other bloggers and talk with them about the content they are creating.

Finally, I honestly thought it would be a fun challenge. Participating in Blogtober stretched my creativity and made me find fun and unique things I can write about. Plus, the more writing I do, the better I will get. So every single post is closer to my goal.
