The season has not officially started until I have me jack-o-lantern blanket on my bed and my Halloween tree out. Yes, I said a Halloween tree. I swear, I just feel different once I finally have my autumnal decorations filling my room. Something clicks into place, and I start humming monster mash or something like that. (There really needs to be more Halloween/fall themed music!)

It has definitely taken me some time to develop my style for autumnal decor. I used to buy anything and everything that I liked, and it has lead me to have a pretty… eclectic collection. I love this collection with my whole heart, and I still find room for my strange looking foam pumpkins. But I have started to understand what I like, and what will make my room the best sanctuary of fall that I can.

For me, my style is very Halloween based. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I want to keep those decorations for as long as I can, even in September and November. So I use a lot of jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and pumpkins.

But, I also have some basic fall decor that screams fall more than it screams Halloween, and that is used for the small touches. The accents to the big theme. Okay, thinking about it, I probably don’t have that much of a cohesive theme going on here, I just try to stuff as much fall fun into my room as I can!

Autumn Themed Blanket

By far the best and favorite fall decor item I own is my jack-o-lantern blanket. I got this two or three years ago from Target and I have never looked back. It makes me simple white bedding easily ready for fall and adds a splash of color that I love. Target releases new designs every year, and I have been eyeballing them! Not that I need another one. I think I want one with ghosts!

Also, I am part of the comfort objects fan club. I believe that you can never have too many comfort objects. Which is probably why I own a ridiculous amount of blankets and plushies…

Throw Pillows

These fall in the same category as my jack-o-lantern blanket. Why would I not want comfort objects that express my love of Halloween!? I probably have too many and they don’t fit cohesively together, but I love them all. The pop of orange adds something to my room, and puts joy in my day. That is the point of Halloween decor in my opinion.

I have both fall and Halloween themed ones, like the one above. My fall ones have pumpkins and leaves and warm cups of coffee on them, and they are so cozy and wonderful!

Pumpkins

I have… a lot of pumpkins. And none of them look good together, but I still love them anyway. Throwing tiny pumpkins in random places in my room is the first thing I do when I pull out my autumnal decorations. I love coming across them as I go through my day! It is like a pop of joy.

Halloween Tree

And the main event of my autumn decorations! Do you think Christmas is the only holiday that gets a tree? My dad found me this Halloween tree three or four years ago, and at first, I was meh about it. I didn’t understand the appeal. But then, I turned it on, threw some mummy lights on it and added some other decorations and I was hooked. Now I am always on the lookout for Halloween ornaments. I got my first one at a harvest festival a couple years ago and I can’t wait to find more.

Fall Leaves

These are another small touch that adds a pop of color to my life. My room feels so boring when it isn’ fall or Christmas because that is where all the color lies! I have these leaves lined up in front of my TV, so I feel the fall joy while I watch a horror movie or a spooky Netflix series.

As I said, my room does not ever feel as warm, inviting, and wonderful as it does during Autumn. All of the pops of color, fun pumpkins, and surprise Halloween guests make me truly appreciate this time of year as I mentioned in my love letter to this season!

The problem is, every year I buy more decorations because the stores keep coming out with these amazing things. What am I supposed to do? Ignore it? It has been especially difficult this year, as I am really trying to save as much money as I can.
