I have given a lot of movie recommendations on my blog this month. I have talked about my favorite slasher movies and I have given a list of family-friendly Halloween movies. These movies are always so fun to watch, I love every single one of them. But sometimes I’m not in the mood for a movie. I just don’t have the attention span to sit down for two hours and watch something, which is why I will often turn to Netflix for a series to watch instead. During the month of October, I focus solely on spooky Netflix series, to get myself in the spirit for Halloween.

Netflix has been putting out a lot of fantastic content over the past couple of years. A lot of my favorite movies and series have been coming directly to my home through Netflix. I am always so impressed with the incredible cinematography, acting, and set that Netflix has in their projects. Nothing is different when it comes to their spooky content. Everything is on point and perfect for this time of year. I look forward to it all year long.

I have watched a lot of amazing things on Netflix, and I wanted to highlight some of my favorites on this list! Hopefully, you can find a spooky Netflix series to watch this Halloween.

1. Stranger Things

One of my favorite Netflix series altogether is Stranger Things. This show starts after Halloween and even has a season set in the summer, but I still consider it one of the best spooky Netflix series to watch during fall. With the terrifying monsters, mysterious magic, and 80’s aesthetic, I always feel like a kid on Halloween while I watch it.

Not only does this show have fantastic vibes, but it also has great characters and relationships. I love the main cast of young characters who will do anything to protect each other. This is a great dynamic to feature, I wish I saw it more in the series I watch. There are so many unique and interesting characters in Stranger Things, I never get bored.

2. Lock & Key

With the second season coming to Netflix on October 22, this is a fantastic show to watch this Autumn. This series is about a house full of mystery, magic, and intrigue. There is something so cozy about watching people move into such a mysterious house and all the antics and scares that follow. And who doesn’t love being cozy during the fall season? I also love the family of characters in this show. They are so interesting to watch, and I actually care about what happens to them, which is super important in actually enjoying a show.

I will definitely be setting up a rewatch of this later this month in preparation for the brand new episodes. I can’t wait to see what the creators of this show have in store.

3. Squid Games

I am sure everyone and their mother has heard about Squid Games already, but I just finished watching it tonight and I absolutely loved it. Ever since my obsession with The Hunger Games in the early 2000s, I have been obsessed with dystopian stories and the death games genre. I find it so interesting the I always enjoy watching the different takes that different creators have on this genre.

So, when Squid Games was released on Netflix not too long ago, I knew I had to add it to my list. This show has gotten so popular over the course of October, and the hype is totally worth it. I will say, take precautions when watching this show if you don’t like gore, murder, or blood, because there is a lot of that.

Like the other shows on this list, my favorite part of this series was the characters. I never thought a show like this would make me cry but it did. That’s what is so difficult about the death games genre. You know someone is going to die, and you know you are going to form an emotional attachment to that person before. It’s how it goes.

4. Haunted

Looking for something a little more real? The Haunted series on Netflix takes real stories from real people and recreates them for the audience. I used to watch this show all the time, and I am so glad that Netflix has taken over and started creating them. Ghost stories have to be my favorite, so getting to see real people’s stories is always a lot of fun and super spooky.

Every single episode follows new stories with new people, so I never get bored. Watching these real stories is a nice break from the dramatized version of fiction, while still getting my scares in for the Halloween season. I also just really love documentaries, so why not make it spooky during October.

5. The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor

I just finished my rewatch of both of these series and I will say, these have to be the best spooky series that Netflix has to offer right now. They are both so well written and the cinematography is beautiful. It captures all the beauty and horror that the setting and characters have to offer.

I can’t wait for the creator of these two series, Mike Flanagan, to make even more haunting work. I also love the actors. Just like American Horror Story, if you have watched that, this series uses many of the same actors for completely different characters and plot lines. These actors, like Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Kate Siegel, are incredible to watch on screen. They embody the story so well, and you can feel the emotions dripping off of them as they perform.

Midnight Mass came out this year, from the same creator. It wasn’t my favorite, but I would watch it if you enjoyed these two series. Definitely has similar vibes, but a little slower and one too many monologues for me to enjoy fully.

I will watch nothing by scary and spooky series when October rolls around, and Netflix has been bringing a lot. Because of this, I have yet to run out of things to marathon. I am always excited to see what interesting and horrifying content Netflix puts out each year because I am always impressed. Although, I do want to branch out and see what other streaming platforms are doing this year as well.

If you have any spooky series recommendations from Netflix or any other streaming site, let me know! I would love to add more to my list for this year!

Thanks for reading!
