In October, all I want to do was watch all of the spooky and scary movies I could find. Then, somewhere in the middle of November, there was a switch, and Christmas took over completely. Right now, all I want are movies full of snow, joy, and family. So, as I do, I turn to my favorite streaming service, Netflix. I have found some pretty amazing Christmas movies on Netflix, so I am here to share them today.

As an introvert, I love to spend my nights in, cuddling in bed with my dogs while watching Christmas movies on Netflix. With my Christmas tree lit in the corner and a mug of peppermint hot cocoa in hand, I am ready for a night cozy in, watching as characters fall in love, save Christmas, or both at the same time.

And just like with Halloween, Netflix has been killing it with holiday movies. Each year they have been putting out new action, romance, and family holiday movies, and they are good! I have found so many surprising favorites over the past couple of years. Here are my recommendations for Christmas movies on Netflix!

1. The Christmas Chronicles

The Christmas Chronicles came out in 2018, and it quickly gained popularity, for good reason. Kurt Russell does an amazing job playing Santa Clause in this fast-moving, action-packed adventure movie.

This movie follows a brother, Teddy, and a sister, Kate, who attempt to capture proof that Santa Claus exists. However, it all goes wrong when they cause Santa to crash his sleigh. They must work together all night in order to save Christmas, and bring toys to the entire country.

This movie takes Santa Claus and makes him cool. Throw away all your preconceived ideas about Santa before watching The Christmas Chronicles because you are in for a wild ride.

The best part… last Christmas they released The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two! Kate needs to save Christmas again, this time from a very naughty elf.

The even better news? There are rumors that 2022 will bring a Part Three to this incredible Christmas movie franchise. This is sure to become as loved as my favorite Christmas movie trilogy, The Santa Clause.

2. The Knight Before Christmas

Looking for something a little closer to the Hallmark Christmas Movies? Check out The Knight Before Christmas! This magical romance story has knights in shining armor and Christmas Joy, what more could you ask for?

When Brooke is cheated on by her long-time boyfriend, she is in no mood for love. She just wants to get through the holiday season. That is until Sir Cole magically pops into her life… literally. Sir Cole is brought into modern times with medieval magic, and he is a little lost.

This heart-warming Christmas movie is perfect for anyone looking for a little romance in their holiday season. It takes the classic structure of Hallmark movies and adds a twist of magic.

3. Operation Christmas Drop

Another romance Christmas movie, Operation Christmas Drop takes that classic structure and adds some adventure to it.

The main character, Erica, must visit a remote island during the holidays for work. However, she gets so much more when she meets Andrew and falls in love.

Without all the snow and Christmas trees that usually come with Holiday movies, Operation Christmas Drop is a heartwarming movie full of so much joy and happiness.

4. Love Hard

This one is brand new, released this year, and stars Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang. Sticking with the theme of romance, this one also includes comedic elements to bring some laughter this holiday season.

Love Hard follows Natalie, who travels across the country to meet someone she met online. However, when she gets there, the person is nothing like what she expected… he is a completely different person in fact, she was catfished. However, all is not lost! Together, Natalie and her catfish, Josh, work together to try and find Natalie a date for this Christmas.

This movie is so much fun. I love the blend of Christmas and comedy. It is definitely a good, light-hearted movie to watch on a cold winter night.

5. Klaus

The first animated Christmas movie on this list, Klaus has to be one of my favorite movies this time of year, and it was only released in 2019. The style of animation along with the story is so adorable and touching, it puts a huge smile on my face every year when I watch it.

This movie is about a postman who meets a grumpy toy-maker and they form a bond stronger than anyone expected. The two work together to deliver toys and happiness to children in a town that certainly needs a little bit of light.

This movie has such a sweet and cozy feeling to it. It perfectly captures what Christmas is, and I know it has become a Christmas classic in the short time since its release.

6. The Holiday Calendar

If you saw my blog post yesterday, then you know how much I love Advent Calendars. So, when I saw that Netflix released a movie about an advent calendar, I knew I had to watch.

This movie is about Abby, who has a lot of dreams but she doesn’t exactly know how to achieve them. Not until her grandfather passes down an antique advent calendar and all her wishes start coming true. The movie follows along as Abby learns more about herself, her career goals, and her love life.

I loved this movie. With only a splash of magic, it is your classic Christmas romance film. I am such a big fan of Kat Graham, it is fun seeing them in so many holiday movies.

7. A Christmas Prince

Have you ever wanted to fall in love with a prince? No? Maybe it is all the fantasy books I read, but that was my dream when I was younger. So, of course, mixing my favorite holiday with this dream is complete wish fulfillment for me!

This Christmas film is about Amber, who is a journalist sent to get details on an elusive prince. That is until she actually meets Prince Richard and learns there is so much more to him than what the media portrays. Romance ensues.

This is the perfect family movie for the holiday season. From all the options on this list of Christmas movies on Netflix, A Christmas Prince is one of my favorites. I watched it when it came out in 2017, and fell in love with the sense of family and love that this movie portrays.

And the fun doesn’t stop with one movie! This is a whole Christmas trilogy, with the second movie, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, and the final film, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby.

I have not watched the second or third ones, but I am sure they are just as festive as the first. I will definitely be adding them to my watch list this year!

8. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

Far different from the romance movies I have on this list of Holiday films, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is an adventurous fantasy movie that mixes the holidays with magic in a wonderful and festive blend.

This film is about a toy-maker

The costuming, CGI, and set design are all so beautiful, I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen the first time I watched it. I adore the aesthetic of this Netflix movie, and I think it makes a great addition to any holiday movie marathon.

9. A Boy Called Christmas

Based on a book, this movie is about a very brave boy who brought joy and festivities to people during the winter season, creating the holiday we now know as Christmas. It is the origin story of Santa Claus!

This film reminded me so much of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, the stop motion short film that I watched every year as a kid, and still love to this day. Except for way more dramatic and adventurous!

This is a brand new film, and I am always excited to see a book-to-film adaptation!

10. The Claus Family

I love movies about Santa Claus! It is so fun to see how creators take the legend and lore of Santa Clause and put it in new contexts. Especially when it is made modern!

This film was so heart-warming, the perfect family movie to watch this holiday season!

One of my favorite things about Netflix Original films is their ability to work outside the box. Often with Christmas movies, there is a certain structure that they all hold. However, with Christmas movies on Netflix, they have been able to complete break or flip this structure and it has created some wonderful films.

Holiday movies are great! I love Christmas movies so much, in fact, that I work my whole day around making sure I can watch one. When I make the decision to watch a holiday movie, I immediately start working extra hard and fast to make sure I have enough time at the end of the day. I plan my meal to be something comforting and delicious. I plan which candle I am going to burn during the film. It is a whole affair!

Are you more into classic holiday movies or modern ones? I am a modern gal! Give me all the weird and funky modern Christmas movies!
