You know the immaculate vibe of a rainy day. You wake up, it is darker than you are used to so you look out your window to find the sky covers in clouds and raindrops sliding down your window. It is a rainy day. You decide to have a cozy day in, lighting a candle and curling up into bed with a good book and a warm cup of coffee to start the day. Everything is good.

That is what I am craving right now. That is what would give me the boost of serotonin I need to get through the rest of this year. Of course, I’m not even close to having rainy days where I am from, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming. And, I know other areas of the world are starting to get some rain. So, I will be manifesting that rain to come to me by thinking of all the fun things I like to do on a rainy day.

When I am lucky enough to have a rainy day line up with one of my days off from work, here is a list of things I love doing as the rain pours down outside.

1. Sleep the day away

I am not even kidding on of my favorite things to do on a rainy day is sleep. Usually my dogs are super cuddly when it is cold, and when they cuddle with me, there is nothing I can do from stopping the sleep from coming. I can’t be the only one! I will literally stop whatever I am doing a nap if my dog decides to cuddle with me.

2. Watch some movies and TV

Of course, when I have slept enough for 2 humans, I will turn on my TV and see what is on. Sometimes I will go to Netflix, but when it is rainy, I really like to see if there is any fun movie or show I feel like mindlessly watching on daytime television while cuddling under a mountain of blankets. Check out these spooky Netflix series recommendations!

3. Read a cozy book

I’m a reader, so of course, I will read on a rainy day. Nobody ever feels like leaving the house when it’s rainy, so what better time than to make a dent in all the books I want to read during my lifetime?

4. Craft some fun projects

I have so many projects I want to start but don’t because I am too busy or I have other things to do. So, when a rainy day gives the world a short pause and some time to breathe, I love to pull out that crochet project I have been avoiding or that sewing idea I have been wanting to try. You can check out my blog post, here, to see a bunch of craft ideas!

5. Clean up my space

I think it is the desire to have the best aesthetic for the rainy day, but I usually really want to clean my space. I think I am stuck inside, looking around at my space and realizing that there is much that can be done. I love to throw on some music or an audiobook and get to work.

6. Cook a warm meal

There is nothing better than a warm meal to soothe my soul on a rainy day. Soup, mashed potatoes, burrito, or any type of comfort foods are perfect for a cold day, and when I have time to cook them, I cook a lot of them! Got to have left overs for the rest of the week.

7. Work on my writing

I write fiction as well as my blogs, so when it is rainy, I usually turn to my work in progress and think about how I can add the atmosphere I am experiencing into my book. Or, I get a whole new idea for a book, and I have to decide whether to start it or shelf it for when I finish the current project I’m working on.

8. Play with my dogs

Well, when it’s rainy, it is not the best weather to take my dogs on walks or let them play outside to get some exercise, so I have to think of other, unique ways to entertain them. This usually includes playing fetch or running them around the house as I chase them. You have to get creative in small spaces.

9. Journal by candle light

This year is the first year that I have started a bullet journal, and it has been such a positive addition to my life. I love sitting down and working on the next month’s spread or reflecting on everything I accomplished the month before. A rainy day gives me the perfect time to decide what I want my November spread to look like.

10. Write a letter to a friend

You ever miss the excitement of receiving a letter in the mail. Getting to sit down and read what someone spent time writing to you. Cause I do. I am going to start sending out letters to all my friends this year. Plus, what is more, vibey than sitting by a rainy window as I write a letter, looking out thoughtfully and the droplets of water running down the glass.

11. Play board games

This one is a classic, and such a nice way to pass the time when you don’t really want to go outside. But let’s be honest, this is what we have been doing since COVID-19 come into the picture! Still so much fun though, plus if you live alone, there are so many ways to play board games online with friends now!

12. Take a virtual dance or yoga class

Sometimes when you are stuck at home, you can get a little antsy, get a little cabin fever, and you need to work out your energy some way. Well, thanks to the horrible pandemic and coronavirus, we have brought a ton of classes online.

This one is also personal because when I was young, I would love it when it rained on days I had dance because my studio had huge windows and I loved dancing with the rain outside. So why not bring this same energy into my home.

13. Dance in the rain

Only do this if you are healthy and wear a coat and shoes! But, sometimes it is so nice to just relax and act like a kid, and that is what you can do in the rain. Put on some boots and go jump in some puddles! Dance in the rain. Laugh a little, I promise it will be amazing for your soul and your mind. Just make sure you warm up with a cup of tea when you come back inside.

14. Meditate to the sound of the raindrops

This is one I actually don’t enjoy doing but I’m including it here for others. I have never had the mind for meditation. But, so many of those guided meditations have raindrops as the background noise, so why not do it to the real thing?

15. Give yourself a spa day

Draw a hot bath, put some essential oils in there, and soak! Whenever I have free time, I like to focus on self-care. I love using a scrub, putting some lotion on, anything that is going to make me feel good.

Never will you hear me singing, “rain rain go away.” I have never wanted the rain to go away. I remember once, I think it was my 10th birthday, everyone was so sad because it was raining during my party. They said, “I’m sorry it’s raining on your birthday,” and I was like, “Why?! I love the rain!”

That love of the weather has not changed since, and I can’t wait until we get the first rainy day of the season. Please!
