Fun fact about me, I am a huge fan of Hallmark Christmas movies. They are full of holiday spirit and romance, how could I not be. So I get super excited when the Hallmark channel starts playing them every day, all day. They start as early as October! A fantastic way to enjoy these movies is to throw a Hallmark Christmas movie viewing party.

Imagine, all of your favorite people are there, the coffee table is covered in snacks and drinks, and a cheesy holiday romance movie is playing on the screen. That is a Hallmark Christmas movie viewing party. They are fun, cozy, and perfect for the holiday season.

But if you are going to throw a watch party for a Hallmark movie, you really need to go all out! Everything needs to be themed towards Hallmark and Christmas!

This is also a great, low-stress party idea for us introverts or shy folks who still want to celebrate the holiday with friends and family. You can still dress up in cute holiday party dresses or ugly Christmas sweaters but there is no pressure to socialize. You can just come together to enjoy the season and the movie.

Lucky for you, I have been dreaming of throwing a Hallmark Christmas movie viewing party for years, so I am full of ideas on how to make your evening as festive and as fun as you can!

When Should You Throw a Hallmark Christmas Party Viewing Party?

Hallmark starts a Christmas movie every two hours on both of their TV channels. There is literally no bad time to watch them.

But, if you want to surround this holiday celebration around the new movies that Hallmark produces and releases every year, the best time to hold it is on a Saturday night. The Christmas movie premiers start at 8 on Saturdays, so have your guests arrive a couple of hours early to settle in.

If you want, have your guests show up at 4 and serve a nice, holiday-themed dinner before the movie starts. That way everyone has a full belly while watching the movie.

There is no end time to a movie party like this! Hallmark shows movies constantly until about 2 a.m. early on in the season. Now, in late December, Hallmark is playing Christmas movies all… day… long! I am talking 24/7! So you and your party guests can be enjoying festive romance all night long!

Get Your Home Hallmark Ready!

If you have ever watched a Hallmark Christmas movie, you know that the characters in the films go all out while decorating for Christmas. Every single inch of their home is covered in warmth and colorful holiday decorations.

So, as you are starting to prepare for your Hallmark watch party, consider bringing that same energy out of the screen and into your living room. Deck the halls!

  • Add garland to the banister
  • Put up your Christmas tree and cover it with ornaments
  • Add cute holiday throw blankets to your sofa
  • And cute throw pillows
  • Pull out those holiday candles!
  • Or, use other methods to make your home smell good without candles

Whatever you do, you want to make your home feels as warm and inviting as possible. Trust me, having a decorated home will give your party a cozy feeling, which will be more comfortable and enjoyable for your guests.

Dont forget the Snacks and Drinks!

You can’t have a Christmas movie watch party without food and drink! Sometimes, snacks are my favorite part of going to see a movie.

So, when setting up a Hallmark Christmas movie viewing party, you definitely need snacks and drinks. But they need to be holiday-themed! Here are some ideas:

  • Christmas cookies
  • Cream cheese snowballs
  • Holiday shaped chips & dip (tortillas, cookie cutters, and a frying pan)
  • Holiday-themed cocktails or mocktails
  • Candy canes
  • Hot cocoa bar

The possibilities are endless when it comes to deciding what to eat. Not everything needs to be holiday-themed, but it helps with the excitement and festivity of the evening.

Play some Hallmark-Themed Party Games

Hallmark Christmas movies use a lot of common tropes and themes throughout. If you have watched a couple, you can start pointing them out before they ever even happen.

This makes Hallmark Christmas movies the best for party games!

I wrote an article about 10 common tropes in Hallmark movies, so check that out for inspiration while making games for your Hallmark Christmas movie viewing party.

Here are some party game ideas:

  • Hallmark Bingo: Fill bingo cards with all the common tropes in Hallmark Christmas movies. Make sure none of the cards are the same. When you start the movie, hand them out to your guests along with a marker. Whoever gets a bingo first is the winner!
  • Hallmark Drinking Game: Similar to the one above, but for those who drink! Take a sip of your drink everytime a trope pops up in the movie, or a character says something particularily romantic.
  • Pin the Ugly Christmas Sweater on the Hallmark Character: Make a cutout of one of your favorite Hallmark Christmas movie characters and make a bunch of ugly Christmas sweaters to fit. One by one, your guests get blidfolded, spun around, and they attempt to put the sweater on the character. Whoever is closest wins!
  • Gingerbread House Contest: Another common trope from Hallmark is the Christmas contests. So throw and gingerbread house decorating party and see how creative your guests can be.

If you want your guests to be creative, create a little gift basket for whoever wins most of the games! You can include cozy and festive things that would fit right in with the theme of the party. Something like this Christmas movie mug down below! Throw some hot cocoa and a blanket and you have the ultimate Hallmark movie watching kit.

Throwing a Hallmark Christmas movie watch party is a great way to spend time with friends and family this season. It is pretty easy to put together, while still being a blast.

An bonus tip, designate a wardrobe for your guests! Have everyone show up in comfoy Christmas pajamas or ugly Christmas sweater! Movie viewing parties are more fun when people are comfortable.
