By far, the most superior films to watch during the Halloween season are Disney Channel Originals. If I am being honest, it is most likely the nostalgia that is tied to these movies more than anything. It is definitely not the acting or special effects. That is probably why I still love watching movies like High School Musical and Camp Rock. It beings me back to the care free Friday nights when I would get so excited for a premier of a new original movie. I was so happy back then to just sit in front of the screen. I had nothing to worry about, and no other chores and tasks that I knew I had to complete.
Most of these movies are going to be from the early 2000’s, because that is when I was watching Disney Channel the most. Some of them will be from later because I still loved to see what was going on when I was in high school.
These are the movies I am planning on watching on Halloween. I have the evening off, thank goodness, so I am planning on curling up in bed with some hat cocoa, a bunch of snacks, with a candle burning. I want to mix these movies in with some really scary horror movies to have the best night!
1. The Halloweentown Series
And I am talking about all 4 of the movies. Yes, even the final one where they changed the actress for Marnie. I still love all 4 of these films so much. There is something about the magical idea of another world full of Halloween creatures that makes me so happy. I have already watched the first 3 movies with my best friend, and we are planning on watching the final installment next week, right before Halloween.
2. The Twitches Duology
Twin + Witch = Twitches! Disney really did it with this one, using Tia and Tamara to play these twin witches who just discover each other and a magical realm where they are princesses, their mom the queen. These 2 movies are so good! I could probably quote each line of these movies but I don’t care. I will never have watched them enough. I think these 2 will be the first I watch on Halloween.
3. Girl Vs. Monster
This is one of the newer ones I was talking about. This was released in 2012, but I still loved watching it all the same. This is not a movie that I absolutely need to watch each year, but if I am in the mood for something sweet and spooky, I will watch it!
4. Now You See It…
Do you remember this movie? I honestly didn’t until I came across it one day while I was looking for movies to watch. Halloween isn’t only about ghosts and witches. It is also about magic, and this movie is so atmospheric and magical. But, this type of magic isn’t from wands and potions, but from illusions! Not the real kind of magic, but this movie was definitely spooky to watch!
5. Smart House
Gosh, this movie absolutely terrified and intrigued me as a kid. I mean, at first, you think everything is fine and dandy. There were actually some really cool things about this house. The next thing, something very bad and very scary is happening.
I wouldn’t call this a traditional scary movie. It has absolutely no jack-o-lanterns, but what it does have is scares. And honestly, I feel like something like this could happen…
6. Bonus: Halloween specials from various TV series
I am talking Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and all the good ones. We all know the Halloween episode from Suite Life of Zack & Cody was the best and scariest thing we watched as kids.
I definitely want to go back and watch these this year! I haven’t seen them in forever!
This kind of makes me want to see what original Halloween movies Disney Channel has been making recently. I think I saw something about one with zombies? I just know I won’t enjoy them as much because the memories aren’t there.
But I have been so stressed this fall season, I need something to take my mind of it. I need to watch something light and full of childhood memories to distract myself from the world around me.
