Although Autumn and Winter are my favorite seasons, they are also the darkest seasons, which can have a huge impact on my mental health. The days get shorter and the nights get longer. With tomorrow, October 10, being World Mental Health Day, I have been doing a lot of thinking on how I can make the rest of 2021 count. As I mentioned, I have been doing research on different ways to improve my mental well-being, like journaling or connecting with my inner child. Something I noticed in all this research is the importance of staying in the moment and being present, and right now, the present moment is Autumn. So in order to appreciate the beautiful moment we are in, I have collected this group of quotes about autumn in hopes of connecting with and loving the season around me even more than I already do.
2021 has been a rough year. In fact, the past two years have been rough and they feel like they zoomed past in a second. I don’t remember the last time I stopped and was fully present in the moment. But I also feel like the world is coming out of this fog a little bit, at least I am. I have noticed subtle changes around me. My neighborhood has way more fall and Halloween decorations than last year. People are smiling more. I can just feel the spirit in the air. Maybe I’m just being optimistic.
I want to enjoy every single moment of this Autumn season. I want to enjoy the books I read, the movies I watch, and the pumpkin-flavored foods that I eat. My goal for this year, especially for the Holiday season, is to actually live in the present moment.
So, here are some quotes about autumn that will make you stop and smell the… pumpkins!
“The Heat of Autumn is different from the Heat of Summer. One Ripens apples, the other turns them to cider.”
Jane Hirshfield
Oh, how I love a cup of warm apple cider on these chilly nights. Something to warm my soul as the air blows outside. Something I strive to remember is to enjoy the little things. Sometimes life can feel so repetitive, and normal. So I like to enjoy all the small pleasures in life. Not everything has to be big and dramatically good. Sometimes life is just, nice.
“Autumn leaves shower like gold, like rainbows, as the winds of change begin to blow.
Dan Millman
I think I would give my left arm to live in a place where the seasons change, but unfortunately, my town is filled with too many evergreen trees for that. One of the staples of fall is the falling leaves. The beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows fill the world with a rainbow of color, and it is beautiful. Instead of being sad because my Autumn doesn’t include fall leaves, I want to take time to focus on what I do get. I get wind, I get a little bit of rain, and I get a couple of fallen dead leaves on the ground, whose crunch still reminds me of fall.
“And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are all full of trees and changing leaves.”
Virginia Woolf
The Autumn season is about change and growth. Nature goes through an entire metamorphosis this time of year, and I want to do just that as well. My goal for the last couple of months of the year is consistent growth. With all the work I have been putting into my passions, all I have want to see is growth and change, and Autumn is the perfect season for that.
“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
Albert Camus
I love this quote so much. It reminds me that there is always time for more growth and new beginnings. Sometimes, especially because I am in my early 20s, I feel rushed. Like everyone around me knows the recipe to life and I am missing out. I often feel left behind as my peers are achieving their dreams and I’m still figuring out what my dream even is. However, I need to remember that there is no timeline. There is always another spring and another fall for change, growth, and achievement. And there is always time for a new beginning.
“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”
Oscar Wilde
Time moves fast. I think a lot of us experienced this over the past couple of years. It feels like it is going faster and faster as time goes on. So you might as well enjoy it while it lasts. We only get one life, am I right? So instead of focusing on the anxiety that change brings, I want to focus on embracing it and finding the good in the new.
Autumn is beautiful, and quotes about the season give me a little reminder of that. It is the time of year to stop and smell the pumpkins. Stop and enjoy the beauty that this season brings!
