When you are trying to think of things to watch in October, you usually think about something scary or spooky. And while I love those, I also love watching something mysterious. So, I am here, with another recommendation post full of Netflix mystery series that would be perfect to watch this fall season.
I love watching mysteries. There is something so comforting about knowing that, by the end of the series, there will be answers. That is the whole point of the mystery genre, and it makes the watching experience cozy and comfortable, which is all I ask for during Autumn.
This month, I have been on a mission to watch as many series as I can that are even remotely related to fall. Anything spooky, scary, or mysterious has been on my list for the month. In this process, I have seen some fantastic Netflix mystery series.
I am constantly impressed by what Netflix has been putting out, which is probably why I have been talking about them so much on my blog this year. What can I say, there is some quality content coming out of that content machine.
You can check out my other Netflix recommendations here, where I talk about spooky series that I have been enjoying. I also have a list of true crime documentaries I recommend, which you can find here.
Finally, here is my list of Netflix mystery series that would be perfect to watch during the Autumn season.
1. Chesnut Man
This one is a recent release, and it has all the makings of a fantastic Netflix mystery series. This show is about a series of killings, where the murderer leaves a small figurine made from chestnuts at every crime scene. With this small piece of evidence, a couple of detectives work to bring this killer to justice.
This show is dark, suspenseful, and a little disturbing. It would be a perfect show to marathon during Halloween weekend… or Halloweekend if you will.
Yeah, I marathon Netflix series, not parties.
2. Blood & Water
I do love a series set in a private school. Drama with rich kids is so much fun. Blood & Water is about a girl who comes in contact with someone who looks very similar to her. So, she goes out on a quest to figure out if this girl is her sister who was abducted as a baby.
I wrote a whole post about this, which you can read here, but I love when series or TV shows are aesthetically pleasing, and this one is. Something about the costuming and cinematography is pleasing to watch.
3. Who Killed Sara?
With a third season coming, Who Killed Sara? is a fantastic show to watch this Halloween. This series follows Alex, who was framed for his sister’s murder. But instead of laying down and taking it, he is determined to figure out who is trying to get him, and why they killed his sister.
This show uses so many mystery tropes, but with interesting characters and scenarios. It is a mystery and a thriller, and a lot of fun to watch.
4. Glitch
This has to be one of the most unique series I have ever watched. In a small town, a group of people has risen from the grave, good as new, and nobody can figure out why. With a little science-fiction thrown in, this Netflix mystery series is a great watch for Halloween.
The best part of this show is the characters. Throughout the three seasons, I started to really care about the characters and the drama that ensued. This show definitely has some heart to it.
5. Elite
As I said, I do love shows about elite private schools. This show follows a group of students at a private boarding school. These students get into a lot of trouble but when people start showing up dead, the mystery truly begins. With a lot of intrigue, mystery, and cover-ups, this is a seriously addicting show.
This is another show where I started to actually care about the characters. It made me excited to continue watching each new episode. I still have yet to watch the most recent season, which was released this year.
6. Clickbait
When a video surfaced on the internet of Nick holding signs saying that if the video gets enough views, he will be murdered, there is mass panic in the family. They have no idea why he was abducted, and what the kidnapper wants.
This series is a rollercoaster. When you think you know where the show is going, it goes in the complete opposite direction. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and I definitely did not predict the ending. This is definitely a surprising watch.
7. High Seas
Are you a fan of Titanic? Me too! Are you looking for a spooky, mysterious version of the Titanic? Check out High Seas! This show is about two sisters who find out a lot of dark secrets about their family after they learn of mysterious deaths on a luxury cruise line.
I’ll be honest, I started watching this series purely because it reminded me of the Titanic, but I am glad I did. I loved escaping into the world of this show, in 1940’s Brazil. It was a lot of fun to watch.
8. Manifest
What happens when an entire plane full of people reappears after what they thought was only a couple of hours. But it was actually a couple of years. Five years to be exact. Where did the plane go, and how did this jump in time happen?
This is a very intense series. I loved seeing how the characters dealt with being five years in the future, in a world that has essentially left them behind. This is also my favorite type of mystery, with strange hops in time and space. Reminds me of the show Lost, one of my favorites.
9. How to Get Away With Murder
I watched this way back when it was airing on ABC, and it still is one of my favorite mystery series. I have rewatched it multiple times since then. The fun thing about this show is, the viewer is the one left with the mystery. This show follows a group of law students, who work together to cover up a murder. Over the seasons, they end up covering up a few more murders as well.
Like many of the other shows on this list, the characters really make this series for me. In the beginning, I hated almost every character in the group, but as the series progresses through the 6 seasons, I learned to love every single one of them.
10. Slasher
If you like slasher movies as much as I do, then you should check out this blog post full of recommendations. But also, you should check out Slasher, about a group of people who are being hunted by a masked murderer.
I love that this series takes the concept and tropes of the slasher subgenre of horror movies and puts it into a series format. This show is a lot of fun, and the mystery behind the murderer is also intriguing.
Mysteries are so much fun to watch. My favorite thing is watching with friends and trying to be the first person to figure out who the killer is, or why something is happening. It is like a fun competition.
If you have any Netflix mystery series recommendations, leave them in the comments below! There is still about a week until Halloween, so I have plenty of time to watch more before I switch to my Winter mode. That means lots of romances and Hallmark Christmas movies.
